Austin Museum of Art

Today was rather interesting.  I went to the Austin Museum of Art to take a gander at the new photography exhibit, featuring photographers from all over the world including Weegee (Authur Fellig), Rosenthal, Dorothea Lange, Robert Frank, Richard Avedon (wow wow), and our own local photographer, Will van Overbeek.

I want to focus a bit on Overbeek, as he is originally from Austin.  His gallery was titled "24 Summers at Barton Creek" and is a collection of various people in random activites at Austin's favorite natural spring fed pool.  He took a photojournalistic approach to some of the photos, and some were shot IN the water, which suggested he used a waterproof housing for his camera.

Some of his images were interesting, some I found rather mundane.  Here are a few of the images I found interesting, and really captured my attention! :D

Note: All images shown here were taken by Overbeek, not by yours truly. :) I'll post some of my own later on as I continue this blog!

I rather liked the "123Shake!" that Overbeek shot, as it shows impeccable timing, good composition and has an enthralling subject!  All in all, a very good day at the Austin Museum of Art! If you're ever in town, please be sure to visit, as they host different galleries.

On a personal note, I'd like to send out a get-well wish to my friend and mentor, H. Lynn Jones.  He's currently in the hospital for cancer testing, and I hope all turns out well.  Lynn's an excellent photographer, knowledgeable teacher, and even better human being.  Get well soon Lynn!
